Paperphyte/Glossary/Platform engineering

What is Platform engineering?

Platform engineering is the discipline of building internal platforms, tooling and workflows that make it easy for development teams to deliver software safely, quickly and consistently.

The goal is not to centralise everything, but to reduce friction: shared standards, smart automation and self-service that let teams work autonomously without reinventing the same solutions over and over. Common building blocks are CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability and golden paths.

The platforms that succeed are treated as products — with users, feedback loops and a roadmap — not as IT projects that get ”done”. We've written more about this in Plattform som produkt (in Swedish).
