Paperphyte/Glossary/DORA metrics

What is DORA metrics?

The DORA metrics are four key measures of software delivery: deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate and time to restore. They come from the DORA research programme — DevOps Research and Assessment.

The strength of the DORA metrics is that they balance each other: speed (deployment frequency, lead time) against stability (failure rate, time to restore). The research shows high-performing organisations are good at both at once — speed and stability are not a trade-off. Read more at DORA.

Use them as a direction, not a target: start by measuring, publish the numbers internally and let the trend — not the absolute values — drive improvement.
