Star Stable is a game where more than 10 million players in 180 countries live out horse adventures in 14 languages. I was a resource in the team that owns the website, payment flows and all microservices supporting the players outside the game itself. The focus of the assignment: reduce complexity, raise quality and ship faster.
Shipping faster is as much about communication and process as about code. I set up a Jenkins instance as the first step towards continuous delivery and refactored legacy services so they finally became testable. To reduce technical debt I ported internal tools that were 7–8 years old from HTML monoliths to REST APIs with a JavaScript frontend.
Two tools with measurable impact: one that handles all translations for both web and game, and a crash analysis tool for the game studio that clusters and weights similar crashes against the same bug — so the studio can prioritise correctly and eliminate the issues that hit the most players.
