The client is a global company operating in cash handling and financial services. The company offers solutions for managing cash flows for banks, financial institutions, retailers and other commercial businesses where secure and efficient handling of cash is an important part of daily operations.
The company is involved throughout the entire cash cycle — from collection and transport to counting, quality assurance, deposit and distribution. The services help customers reduce their own administration and security risk, while cash can be handled in a structured and reliable way.
The client operates globally and has its largest presence in Europe and North America. The company was previously part of another security group but was spun off and established as a separate company in the 2000s.
I took part as a developer in a project to modernise the client's handling of customer and business information. The existing solution consisted of the CRM system GoldMine combined with a large number of Excel files. The information was thus spread across several different sources, which made it harder to form a shared picture of customers, activities and how the business was developing.
The goal of the project was to migrate the existing information to SugarCRM while creating a more unified platform for the work going forward. The migration was therefore not just about moving data from one system to another. The information had to be mapped and adapted to a new structure that better matched the business's needs.
I worked on the development of the new CRM solution and helped bring data from GoldMine and Excel together in a shared information model. By replacing separate registers and manually maintained spreadsheets with a central platform, the information became more accessible and could be used more consistently across the organisation.
The new data model was designed with a particular focus on follow-up and reporting. By structuring the information around the business's core processes, it became easier to produce relevant reports and analyse developments over time. That gave management a clearer basis for monitoring the business and identifying changes, opportunities and areas that needed further attention.
The project resulted in a more modern and cohesive CRM environment where customer and business data could be handled in one shared way. The move from GoldMine and standalone Excel files to SugarCRM reduced the dependence on manual information flows and created a more stable foundation for continued development.
The new solution not only gave better support for operational work, but also made the information more useful as a basis for strategic decisions. Management thereby gained a clearer grip on how the business was developing, while the organisation gained better conditions for consistent reporting and future improvements.
